New Series:   "24 - A Day in the Life of Jesus"

this week:    Peter Becomes a Fisher of Men

scripture:    Luke 5: 1-11

24

This Sunday we will begin a new series for the season of LENT, which begins on Wednesday, the 22nd,  Ash Wednesday. Plan to be with us for the Discovery Night Covered-Dish dinner at 5:45pm and then stay for the Ash Wednesday Worship Service at 7pm. This will be a very unique time of worship and an excellent way to enter into the Lenten Season. As you attend worship this Sunday or the Ash Wednesday service, you will receive a Lenten Bible Study Bookmark that our Worship Design Team has prepared. This will proide a reading plan for the complete season leading up to and including Easter. The readings will follow our worship series, as well as, guide you on the journey with Jesus during His days of ministry and week of Passion.

As we begin the series this weekend, we will study the encounter of Jesus with Peter, James, and John. This is when Jesus' invitation to them begins their following as a disciple and Jesus' actions as a "dream-releaser" changed their lives. We will look into how Jesus chose to encounter these fisherman and gave them an invitation that would change their lives, and the lives of many others, for years to come. There is much we will learn from the way Jesus invites Peter, James, and John, as well as, what He taught in the manner by which he engages their gifts and abilities. Jesus actually does invest in a very risky proposition and He takes that risk for us. Do you know what Jesus risked for you?  This encounter of Jesus with the first disciples and those He was teaching, will teach us a great deal about how God feels about us.

This Lenten series, "24 - A Day in the Life of Jesus", will be an engaging journey with Jesus' ministry and provide us encounters with the One who can change your life, as He did with these first disciples. I am looking forward to making this journey with you and discovering the true invitation that Jesus has for each one of us. Plan to be with us throughout this Lenten season, follow the Bible reading study and engage in each of the worship opportunities - we will all be drawn closer to Christ and deepen our spiritual growth. Let's get started well this Sunday.

I'll see you in worship Sunday. Let's not miss what God has already begun to prepare for us during these significant days!

This Week's Scripture

1.Once while Jesus was standing beside the lake of Gennesaret, and the crowd was pressing in on him to hear the word of God, 2.he saw two boats there at the shore of the lake; the fishermen had gone out of them and were washing their nets. 3.He got into one of the boats, the one belonging to Simon, and asked him to put out a little way from the shore. Then he sat down and taught the crowds from the boat. 4.When he had finished speaking, he said to Simon, ‘Put out into the deep water and let down your nets for a catch.’ 5.Simon answered, ‘Master, we have worked all night long but have caught nothing. Yet if you say so, I will let down the nets.’ 6.When they had done this, they caught so many fish that their nets were beginning to break. 7.So they signalled to their partners in the other boat to come and help them. And they came and filled both boats, so that they began to sink. 8.But when Simon Peter saw it, he fell down at Jesus’ knees, saying, ‘Go away from me, Lord, for I am a sinful man!’ 9.For he and all who were with him were amazed at the catch of fish that they had taken; 10.and so also were James and John, sons of Zebedee, who were partners with Simon. Then Jesus said to Simon, ‘Do not be afraid; from now on you will be catching people.’ 11.When they had brought their boats to shore, they left everything and followed him.
