To promote the gospel of Christ through movement and to edify our bodies as a living sacrifice holy and acceptable
before our Lord.
Scripture focus:
Psalm 150
Praise him with thetambourineand dancing
Praise Him with the strings and flute,
Let everything that has breath praise the Lord!
About this Ministry:
The Sacred Dance
Ministry Team was first formed in January of 2008, and continues
to grow as a vital ministry of Saint James United Methodist
Church. We coordinate our dances with the messagel themes
being presented in worship. "Ministry In Motion" presents
dances during special times of the church year at both the
Traditional and Contemporary Services. It is our desire to
enhance our worship services with praise through dance for special
liturgical events in the church (Christmas, Palm Sunday, Easter
and Pentecost) as well as other church celebrations where dance
can enhance the worship experience.
Style of Dance:
It has been our goal to incorporate many different styles of dance,
while honoring God. Flags and Billow Cloths are also used in
our dance as another expression of worship to bring glory and honor to God.
We are not professionals and everyone is welcome to join us.
We strive to honor God by focusing our attentions on Him, and not ourselves.
Costuming:
We have begun to build a basic inventory of dance related costuming. We would like to continue to grow this inventory and expand our costuming options through donations
from the dance team as well as the people. All dance costumes are
the property of Saint James United Methodist Church.
Rehearsals:
Rehearsal times are currently scheduled for Monday evenings at 6:30pm in the main Sanctuary. We begin with a time of prayer, followed by some exercise/warm up and stretching. Loose, comfortable clothing is recommended for practices, as well as proper foot wear for the prevention of injuries. Rehearsals are generally not strenuous; however, if you have any health concerns or issues, it is wise to seek clearance from your medical doctor before participating. It is our intent for rehearsals to be productive. All participants will
be accepted and respected as we grow not only as a dance team, but also as a “small group family”.
As performance dates draw closer, it is not uncommon to have more than one rehearsal per week.
Who can participate?
This ministry is open to anyone with a heart for service and a desire to worship in expressive ways.
The group is open to everyone, all ages and both genders.
